Pasadena, South Houston Gets Good Monthly Sales Tax Revenue Report

The latest sales tax revenue report was good news for some cities in the Pasadena area.

Released by the Texas Comptroller’s Office on Nov. 12, the September earnings report showed Pasadena and South Houston posted double-digit year-over-year gains from the month a year ago. .

Monthly reports come out six weeks after the fact.

Pasadena took in $3.66 million in September, down from $3.32 million in the same month in 2020.

The difference of $337,048 represented a 10% increase over last year’s figure.

Pasadena’s fiscal numbers also reflect well relative to September 2019, which was before the global economy was strangled by the pandemic.

In September 2019, Pasadena generated $3.29 million through sales tax, down $360,565 from this year’s $3.66 million.

The Gate cleared the $1 million hurdle for the third time in four months in September, raking in $1.12 million, while the corresponding month in 2020 saw $1.1 million in. This difference of $17,094.73 corresponds to an improvement of 1.5%.

La Porte’s posting in this month’s report topped its 2019 counterpart by $41,680. That month, $1.08 million was received as sales tax.

Deer Park’s total for the month this year was $895,405, up $10,889, or 1.23%, from the amount raised in September 2020.

But the performance for this month of September was lower than that seen for this month in 2019, when the total hit $962,728.

South Houston posted a 20.6% year-over-year gain.

The city collected $384,720 in sales taxes in September, an increase of $65,741 from the same month in 2019, when $318,979 was reported. The city’s total for September 2019 was $283,768.

As for small towns, Morgan’s Point had a disappointing September, seeing sales tax revenue fall 22.2% from the same month last year.

The 2021 total was $69,880, which is $19,903 less than the 2020 amount of $89,783.

Shoreacres saw its September sales tax revenue increase 4.12% year-over-year. This September, $15,574 came in, compared to $14,957 for the month of 2020.

The October sales tax report is expected to be released in mid-December.
