“In less than six months, New York has become a leader among states in implementing successful gambling policies, with hundreds of millions of dollars going towards important programs that will improve the lives of all New- Yorkers,” Hochul said. “I am committed to maintaining responsible and effective gaming policies that will move the industry forward and continue to drive our state’s economic growth.”
Sports betting revenue will go towards education, grants for youth sports programs, and problem gambling prevention and recovery services.
“These numbers further prove that New York’s gambling industry is robust thanks to the implementation of effective gambling regulations and the actions of responsible sports betting operators. The results – hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue in less than six months of operation – speaks for itself,” said Chinazo Cunningham, commissioner of the New York State Office of Addiction and Support Services.
In addition to collecting betting tax revenue, the state collected $200 million in licensing fees from eight sports betting platforms.
