The latest monthly sales tax report had good news for most Bay Area cities, with many seeing their October revenues surpass levels seen for that month in 2020.

Monthly sales tax reports are issued by the Texas State Comptroller’s office and are released six weeks after the fact. The December 10 report details the funds generated in October.

The November Sales Tax Receipts report will be released in mid-January.

A total of three Bay Area municipalities — League City, Webster and Dickinson — saw their monthly tax receipts hit the seven-figure mark.

League City was the big dog in October, collecting $2.45 million in sales taxes. This figure was a solid 7.2% more than the $2.28 million brought in in October 2020.

The latter figure represents a time when the economy was still reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic. But looking at the same month in 2019 before the virus hit, League City are still ahead.

That month, the city took in $2.1 million, down $346,961 from October.

In total, League City significantly exceeded the 2020 sales tax. As of December last year’s report, the municipality had received $28.79 million in sales tax. This year so far, the total is $32.02 million, or 11.2% more.

Webster continues to collect sales tax revenue at an accelerating rate. In October, the city produced $1.68 million, or 16.07%, or $232,934, more than the $1.45 million for the same month in 2020.

The city’s monthly revenue also compares favorably to October 2019, when $1.53 million was generated through sales tax.

Dickinson’s sales tax revenue was only a hair’s breadth behind Webster’s at $1.57 million, and that figure was 44.4% higher than the $1.09 million generated the corresponding month. last year.

The year-over-year difference was $482,617.

Although Friendswood performed well in sales tax revenue generation in October, it faltered somewhat compared to the same month last year.

In October, the city recorded $747,409 in sales tax revenue, down $49,508, or 6.2%, from funds generated in 2020.

Kemah, the hospitality king on the coast, raked in $356,482 in sales tax revenue in October. This figure eclipsed the October 2020 total of $311,449 by 14.45%.

Seabrook reversed a short-term trend by going back to black when it comes to monthly sales tax numbers. In September, the city generated $273,004, or 10.58% less than the previous September’s total of $305,328.

The report detailing October earnings, however, had a rosier picture. This time around, Seabrook raised $263,087 in sales tax funds, 15.11% more than last year.

Nassau Bay posted double-digit increases in total taxes year-over-year for the fourth consecutive month when it generated $95,242 in revenue. In October 2020, this figure was 10.94% lower at $85,850.

In Taylor Lake Village, city sales tax revenue for October was $17,705, an improvement of $3,139 from what was reported in the same month last year.
