Michigan Shares $42.2 Million in Marijuana Tax Revenue with Local Governments | State
LANSING, Mich. (WJRT) — Michigan is spreading $42.2 million in marijuana tax revenue with 62 cities, 53 counties, 33 townships and 15 towns next week.
The 163 local government units will receive more than $56,400 for each licensed marijuana retail store and microbusiness in their jurisdiction. The money came from taxes charged to 374 licensed marijuana businesses in 2021.
Washtenaw County receives the most of any local government with over $1.8 million, followed by Bay County with second with over $1.3 million and Genesee County with third with over $1.3 million. $1 million.
Michigan collected a total of $111 million from the 10% excise tax on more than $1.1 billion in adult-use marijuana sales. Other fees and taxes allowed the state to collect $172 million in total marijuana revenue last year.
The Michigan Transportation Fund, which funds the road and bridge projects, and the School Aid Fund will each receive $49.3 million from marijuana revenue.
“It is gratifying to see the agency’s balanced regulatory approach effectively protect consumers while allowing Michigan businesses to grow and prosper,” said Andrew Brisbo, executive director of the Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency.
Here are the marijuana payment amounts for communities in Mid-Michigan:
$56,453 each for the County, Au Gres Township and Au Sable Township.
$1.355 million for the county, $677,441 for Bangor Township, $564,534 for Bay City and $112,906 for Pinconning Township.
$1.016 million for the county, $451,627 for the town of Burton, $282,267 for the town of Flint, $169,360 for the township of Mt. Morris and $112,906 for the township of Thetford.
$112,906 for the county, $56,453 for the town of Mount Pleasant and $56,453 for the township of Wise.
$338,720 each for the county and town of Lapeer.
$56,453 each for Big Creek County and Township.
$112,906 each for Denton County and Township.
$169,360 for the county, $112,906 for the village of Chesaning and $56,453 for the town of Saginaw.
$225,813 for the county, $169,360 for the town of Owosso and $112,906 for the village of Laingsburg.
