For the most part, cities in the Pasadena area recorded sales tax receipts in March similar to those for the same month in 2021.
The Gate was the star, however. This city received sales tax revenue of $1.29 million, an improvement of $377,754 from the March 2021 total of $912,961. While La Porte saw double-digit increases in sales tax money in the previous three months, the March figure was 41.4% higher year over year.
Sales tax figures for March were released by the Texas Comptroller’s Office on May 13. The monthly figures are published six weeks after the fact.
Pasadena topped $4 million for the second time in four months, but its $4.047 million total was $8,648 shy of the $4.056 million that hit cash registers in March 2021.
This 2022 figure was only 0.2% lower than the previous mark, but it was a deviation from recent months. In the prior six months, Pasadena had averaged a 15.2% increase in sales tax revenue over the same period a year ago.
Deer Park saw its tax revenue approach 2021 figures. In March, the city generated $1.15 million, an improvement of 2.9% over the same month in 2021, when it reported 1 .12 million dollars.
South Houston’s economy continued to grow, surpassing totals from a year ago. Last March, the city shelled out $411,999 in taxes, an increase of 8.8% compared to $378,517 in March last year. South Houston hasn’t seen its monthly sales tax numbers trail behind 2021 numbers since May of last year.
Morgan’s Point saw the March fiscal figure drop slightly this year. The municipality collected $77,272, a 0.2% year-over-year decline from the $77,425.29 seen in 2021.
To top things off, Shoreacres continued to post year-over-year improvements in its monthly sales tax numbers. This March’s total of $14,350 was 4.5% higher than last year’s $13,736.
April tax receipts will be released in mid-June.
